Johney declares his faith in Jesus through Baptism
I am so happy to be in front of all of you to proclaim that I am a Christian and that the gospel is indeed the Good News for anyone that wants to be born again in Christ.
I was saved in Christ as a young boy about the same age as my boys are today. I am forever grateful for learning the gospel from neighbors that invited me to church with them and an education received from a Baptist school that shaped my understanding of the gospel. I will forever be grateful to have Christian mentors in my life that taught me the essentials of the Gospel. I pray that the impressionable children of today will have Christian mentors to help guide them to salvation.
What is the Gospel? Well for those that are not sure the Gospel is the message of a fulfilled promise by God to provide the gift of his grace which is salvation through Jesus Christ. The gospel instructs and teaches us on how to receive this amazing grace. As a sinner I am unable to save myself and have eternal life. In fact, I was condemned to die. In believing that Jesus Christ, the son of God, was sacrificed on the cross to die for my sins, I received the gift of the holy spirit to help guide my life to worship Jesus so I could live an eternal life in Heaven.
The gospel teaches us that it is a rebirth through repenting and asking Jesus Christ to take over our hearts and souls that leads us to Salvation in heaven. Since becoming a Christian, I believed that through Jesus Christ I should follow his example to love and show compassion for everyone. It is a commitment that I continue to make and though I struggle at times, I pray every day to confess my sins and proclaim my faith that Jesus is Lord.
For reasons I cannot explain I am a 56-year-old Christian that was never baptized. Why do I want to be baptized? Christ died publicly for my sins, so I want to show my faith by being publicly baptized which symbolizes his death and resurrection. I am here today to proclaim to all of you that I am a Christian a follower of Christ and I am committed to the Gospel. Amen.
This baptism is a next step of many callings to help and mentor those that want to learn more about the Gospel – the Good News of Jesus Christ.
